Another year comes to a close and as an ACCKA we have so much to celebrate as an organisation, a group of people committed to Catholic Education and whānaungatanga.
Cultural Celebrations
Throughout the year we have joined together to celebrate the cultural diversity across our schools. Our ASLs have ensured successful, joyful opportunities to celebrate our many languages, identities and cultures. Through a variety of competitions around language, speech and visual art, our tamariki were able to share their cultures. Our tamariki entered these competitions with excitement and support from whānau and kaiako. Our Pasifika and Māori masses epitomised our whānaungatanga and the importance of liturgical gatherings.
2024 Kaiako Kapa Haka Tutor
Introducing our newly appointed Kaiako Kapa Haka for 2024... Olivia Mallon.
We are very fortunate and excited to appoint Olivia Mallon. Liv is young, passionate and very excited about taking on the role. She is warm, friendly, articulate and confident. She shared examples of a nurturing, supportive learning style across the age levels of primary school children. She is very open to ensuring support for our Special Catholic Character. Liv will be a great asset for our schools in Māori tīkanga and Te Reo supporting not only our tamariki but our kaiako. She has a strong understanding of te ao Māori me ōna tikanga, conversational Te Reo Māori, and musical skills as a skilled guitar & ukulele player.
A huge thank you to Molly (ASL–St Paul’s College) for her organisation & liaising with our candidates, setting up interviews and interviewing with Laureen. We look forward to 2024.
Literacy Support
An initiative that will continue to create valuable opportunities for discussion, debate and moderation is our Writing Hui’s. Teachers from Years 4-8 have been meeting to share writing samples to moderate and rich conversations have been ensured. We will continue this PLD next year.
Farewells and Welcomes
At the conclusion of this 2023 year, we farewell Jane Hahn, Principal at Good Shepherd Catholic School, Balmoral. Jane has been a tireless advocate for ACCKA and ACCPA. She has been a huge support to us as dual leaders of the current ACCKA and her experience as a dual leader was outstanding. Jane will be sorely missed by all in Catholic Education. We wish Jane every good blessing as she continues her life journey outside of principalship. God Bless you, Jane.
We welcome Ben Fahey to the principalship of Good Shepherd and offer him all of our support in his new role. Ben, you have joined an incredibly supportive, passionate, faith-filled organisation and we welcome you.
We farewell Mini Joseph from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Epsom. We thank Mini for her support throughout her years as principal of OLSH and wish her all God’s blessings for the next steps on her life’s journey. We welcome Tanya Rodrigues to the Acting Principal role of OLSH in 2024 while the appointment of a new principal takes place. Tanya, know that we are here to assist you when it is needed.
We farewell Bridget Hansen from St Mary’s College as an Across School Lead. Bridget has strongly advocated and worked tirelessly alongside others with the organisation of the masses and celebrations. She has also provided her support for Critical Literacy and the Literacy Co-Requisites.
We farewell Paul Maskery from St Peter’s College as an Across School Lead. Paul has worked around the foci of transition, Māori & Pasifika and data. He put a lot of time and energy into the mahi behind the Māori Mass and supported his colleagues in a variety of ways.
We thank Bridget and Paul for their commitment and mahi for the collective good of the ACCKA.
Once again we thank you for your ongoing support, passion and commitment to Catholic Education, our purpose as a Kāhui ako and the commitment to making a difference in each child’s life.
We wish you all God’s blessings for a holy and joyous Christmas and New Year break. May the reason for the season be ever evident in our lives, our schools and our homes.
Stay well, travel safe and have fun! See you in 2024.
